Good style is more than just a cute bag, shoes or bracelet. It is the armor by which we take on the world. Katie Sellu is a stylist that lives and works by this moniker. Driven by her love for all things fashion, at just 27-years-old, Sellu is quickly making a name for herself in the competitive world of wardrobe styling.
Born and raised in Brooklyn New York, Sellu began her career as an intern at the famed Elle Magazine. There she learned the fashion business from the inside out. Assigned to the fashion closet, the then intern organized and assisted editors in styling for the magazine’s shoots. She has worked with designer names like Alice + Olivia, Alexander Wang, and Jason Wu (before he shot to stardom designing the inauguration dress for first lady Michelle Obama).
After leaving the magazine, Sellu continued styling on a freelance basis compiling an impressive roster of clients. Diversifying her styling resume, Sellu also works within the urban entertainment realm. Her clients have included hip-hop impresario Lil Wayne, R&B singers Cassie, Ray Lavender and Chris Brown; actress Lauren London, and soul-singer Raheem Devaughn.
In 2007 Sellu traded in the Big Apple for the flourishing city of Atlanta, Georgia. She currently works as a freelance stylist with plans to crossover into full-fledged entertainment styling within both the editorial and television worlds. Although moving from one city to another was an adjustment, Sellu’s ability to adapt to new environments has allowed her substantial work within the Atlanta area. Proving her unwavering commitment to impeccable style, Selu would love to one day share her talent with the likes of writer/direction/producer Tyler Perry and media mogul Oprah Winfrey.
Strapped with the inspiration given to her daily courtesy of the smiling faces of her two young children, Sellu’s ubiquitous flair and ability to turn a bland outfit into a full-fledged artistic story, is what sets her apart from others. She is doing what she loves to do while keeping people looking good and feeling great along the way!
